Ulcer: An open lesion of the skin or a mucous
membrane of the body with necrosis of the tissue.
Ulcerative colitis: An inflammatory disease of the
colon of an unknown cause. Symptoms include abdominal pain and cramping,
diarrhea, and rectal bleeding.
Ultrasonography: A test in which high-frequency
sound waves (ultrasound) are bounced off tissues and the echoes are
converted into a picture (sonogram).

Tolerable upper intake level. Set by the Food and Nutrition
Board of the Institute of Medicine, the UL is the highest level of daily
intake of a specific nutrient likely to pose no risk of adverse health
effects in almost all individuals in the specified life stage and gender
group.
Uremia: Accumulation of toxic of urea and other

kidney malfunction.
