Wandering macrophage: Phagocytic cell that develops from a monocyte, leaves the blood, and migrates to infected tissue.

Wart: Generally benign tumor of epithelial skin cells caused by a virus.

Wave summation: The increased strength of muscle contraction that results when stimuli follow on another in rapid succession.

White matter: Aggreations of bundles of myelinated axons located in the brain and spinal cord.

White pulp: The portion of the spleen composed of lymphatic tissue, mostly lymphocytes (B cells).

White ramus commubicans: The portion of the preganglionic sympathetic nerve fiber that branches from the anterior ramus of the spinal nerve to enter the nearest sympathetic trunk ganglion.
