Nitric Oxide Performance Boosting Hemodilator:
Arginine
Alpha-Ketoglutarate (AAKG) promotes increased nitric oxide (NO) production for enhanced blood flow and
better delivery of oxygen and nutrients to working muscle.
AAKG creates an anabolic
environment in your body by increasing the volume of blood flowing through muscle tissue (hemodilation) which leads to increased oxygen and
nutrient delivery, glucose uptake, muscle velocity and power output. AAKG helps
amplify muscle-growth signals giving
faster gains in lean mass and accelerates both fast and slow twitch muscle fiber
for greater strength, improved muscle recovery, and increased endurance. The
increased blood flow may also contribute to enhanced sexual performance.
In
addition, L-Arginine stimulates the production of Growth Hormone (GH), a
chemical produced by the body that promotes growth and plays an essential role
in metabolism. Growth Hormone (GH) is popular among athletes because it's believed to play a
part in building lean muscle mass and increasing strength.
Used in conjunction with your
exercise program, AAKG may support myodilation, the
expansion of muscle tissue.

AAKG is a more
bio-available form of Arginine (or L-arginine) which
is a crystalline free-form amino acid involved in numerous areas of human
biochemistry, including muscle metabolism, ammonia detoxification,
hormone secretion and the immune system. L-arginine is considered a
semi-essential amino acid, because although it is normally synthesized
in sufficient amounts by the body, supplementation is sometimes
required. Arginine supports protein synthesis as it is involved in the
transport and storage of nitrogen and is important for proper physical
performance because it is used by the body to produce creatine.
L-arginine is required for the synthesis of nitric oxide, a secondary
messenger involved in blood flow. Nitric oxide is a compound that helps
keep blood vessels dilated to promote healthy blood flow. Preliminary
evidence suggests that arginine may be useful in the treatment of
medical conditions that are improved by vasodilation, such as angina,
atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, erectile dysfunction, heart
failure, intermittent claudication/peripheral vascular disease, and
vascular headache. Arginine also stimulates protein synthesis and has
been studied for wound healing, bodybuilding, enhancement of sperm
production (spermatogenesis), and prevention of wasting in people with
critical illness. L-Arginine is beneficial for overall cardiovascular
maintenance and sexual function as well as other areas that depend
largely on healthy circulatory status.
L-arginine was first
isolated in 1886. In 1932, L-arginine was found to be required for the
generation of urea, which is necessary for the removal of toxic ammonia
from the body. In 1939, L-arginine was also shown to be required for the
synthesis of creatine. Creatine degrades to creatinine at a constant
rate, and is cleared from the body by the kidney. Arginine is also a
precursor of guanido-phosphate, phosphor-arginine and creatine, the
high-energy compounds found in muscles. L-Arginine has been used
extensively by bodybuilders to increase blood flow to muscle tissue and
to enhance creatine storage in the body although recently Arginine
Alpha-ketoglutarate has become more popular. Arginine is also an
important factor in muscle metabolism and works to transport, store and
excrete nitrogen.
Alpha-Ketoglutarate (AKG) Aminos are the Preferred Choice for Nitric
Oxide and Building Muscle:
Amino Acid
Alpha-Ketoglutarates are amino acids with an alpha-ketoglutaric acid
(AKG) molecule attached. This AKG transport molecule helps the amino
acid bypass the gut and enter the muscle cell directly giving you
superior absorption. Unlike L- form amino acids, AKGs are shuttled
directly to the muscle cells rather than being absorbed and used by the
small intestines for nucleotide synthesis. This makes AKG aminos the
perfect choice if your goal is building muscle, but maybe not the best
choice if you have more generalized health goals. AKG drives the amino
acid into muscle cells creating a pro-anabolic environment.
Amino acid alpha-ketoglutarates are technically amino acids derivatives.
Their ergogenic effects are similar to those of their base free form
amino acids, but by molecularly bonding it to AKG, its ergogenic effects
become more pronounced within the muscle cell itself. The presence of
the AKG molecule not only enhances the function of amino acid and
overcomes its inherent limitations, but also increases its absorption
rate thereby reducing the need for large doses, which may put less
stress on the body. An added benefit is that AKG is a precursor to
glutamine, so when the AKG is finished doing its job as a shuttle
molecule it gets converted into glutamine. No waste - all benefit.
Arginine
Improves Growth Hormone (GH) levels:
Arginine
stimulates the natural release of growth hormone and is a far safer and more
cost effective alternative to growth hormone treatment such as HGH injections.
Growth hormone is one of the most powerful hormones in the human body which
promotes the growth of lean muscle tissue and the loss of fat. As you age,
growth hormone levels drop, which is one reason you lose muscle and gain fat. In
a controlled trial, when arginine and other amino acids were combined with
weight training, a greater decrease in body fat was obtained after only five
weeks than when the same exercise was combined with a placebo. Arginine is also
needed to increase protein synthesis, which can in turn increase muscle growth.
[1,2].
L-arginine taken on an empty stomach can cause a significant release of growth
hormone in many people. A dosage of between 10 and 30 grams of L-Arginine,
depending upon factors such as age and body weight, is needed to have any impact
on GH release. Taking arginine in capsule form is not recommended because it
would take upwards of 20 capsules per serving to have a substantial impact on GH, which is why powder is the recommended delivery method.
Growth hormone releasers should not be used by children until five years after
they have completed their long bone growth (unless under careful medical
supervision). The effectiveness of arginine for growth hormone release is
age-dependent. A person in their twenties can get a very high release of growth
hormone whereas a person in their fifties would get a lower response.
Growth Hormone
(GH) for the athlete:
Athletes involved in intense
exercise on a regular basis need Growth Hormone (GH) to increase energy, enhance
lean body mass and to maintain strong bones and keep their weight under control.
Availability of GH in systemic circulation also helps increase strength, burn
fat, enhance libido, boost immunity and support tendons and ligaments. By
inducing the secretion of GH from the pituitary, arginine and lysine stimulate
muscle metabolism and, hence, provide nutritional support for the athlete.
The combination
of L-Arginine L-Pyroglutamate and L-Lysine may improve GH Levels:
The combination of Arginine
Pyroglutamate with L-lysine is one of the first natural GH releasers proven by
scientific research to work. L-Arginine L-Pyroglutamate was the focus of
world-wide attention in 1981 when Italian researcher A. Isidori, M.D., and his
colleagues of the University of Rome determined that a combination of L-Lysine
and L-Arginine L-Pyroglutamate when given orally to a group of 15 male
volunteers between the ages of 15 and 20 was more than 10 times more effective
at increasing blood levels of human growth hormone than taking only the amino
acid L-Arginine by itself (yielding a average net GH increase of more than
700%). According to these researchers, "we could demonstrate that the
association of the two amino acids does result in the release of biologically
active GH able to affect peripheral cellular receptors and thus cell growth in
general."[3].
One reason this
combination might be so effective is that free form "L" versions of Lysine and
Arginine compete for the same receptors. Replacing L-arginine with Arginine
Pyroglutamate prevents competition for the same receptors. It is suggested that
Arginine Pyroglutamate attaches to a different receptor allowing for a
synergistic effect between the two amino acids. NutraBio's
Arginine Pyroglutamate Plus Lysine
combines 1200 mg of L-Arginine L-Pyroglutamate along with 1200 mg of free form
L-Lysine which is the exact formula used in the university study that proved the
most beneficial combination to promote GH levels.
Which Arginine
should I take to boost Growth Hormone (GH) and Nitric Oxide?
If you are taking arginine with
the sole purpose of releasing growth hormone, the best alternative would be our
Arginine Pyroglutamate Plus Lysine
which is specifically designed and proven for this purpose and requires a much
smaller dose of only 2.4 grams as opposed to 10 to 30 of L-Arginine. This
smaller dose however will not be sufficient for nitric oxide release, nutrient
delivery enhancement or sexual performance. If you are looking for both Growth
Hormone and
Nitric Oxide release than a good methodology would stacking multiple types of
Arginine. Take 1-2 doses of Arginine Ethyl
Ester (AEE) or Arginine Alpha Ketoglutarate (AAKG)
earlier in the day and before workouts, and take one dose of
Arginine Pyroglutamate and Lysine
at night time. This stack gives you the most effective method for increasing
nitric oxide to give you an ultimate muscle pump while improving GH levels for
muscle growth. If taking two doses of AAKG or AEE earlier in the day make sure
to separate both doses and the nighttime Arginine Pyroglutamate Plus Lysine by
at least 3 hours. If you miss any of the doses, do not double up on the next
dose just continue on with your next dose as normal.
